Twas the Night before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the place
The baby was crying, he was red in the face
The toddler was screaming and throwing his toys
Momma was exhausted from chasing two boys

The stockings that had hung by the chimney with care
Were pulled down by the toddler who wanted them “there”
Papa had tied the tree, with a rope, to the wall
So that the poor tannenbaum could withstand a sure fall

The presents were wrapped with much hustle and haste
Being wrapped during nap times, not a moment to waste
The baby was teething and the cell phone kept ringing
Asking when they’d be where and what they’d be bringing

Visits and parties and church services planned
Momma was wondering how much she could stand
Bed times getting later and pushed to her breaking
Momma had said “forget it” to baking

Knowing these years don’t last very long
They charged up the cameras and sang one more song
They danced and they hugged and they talked about Jesus
The reason for the “Merry” – He came here to free us

With her thoughts filled with those who feel pain this December
Momma said a quick prayer and will always remember
The free gift of the Christ child is why we choose Joy
All our Hope and Redemption came in one little boy

So with babies now sleeping and the carols all sung
They head up the stair - the stockings re-hung
As they climb into bed - all is calm, all is bright
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night

What I Learned While Moving

1. I have too much stuff. Way. too. much. Nothing puts your amount of belongings into perspective like having to put it all in boxes/bags/bins and asking your friends and family to carry it. I blame the amount of stuff I have accumulated on the fact that I have always been an "old soul". Which translates to having thoughts about what you should save for your future home/kids when you are about 12.

2. Before you buy a house you should open all the appliance doors all the way. That is all I am saying about that. :(

3. When you have a toddler whose favorite thing in the whole world in taking things out of boxes packing is hard.

4. We really have awesome friends and family. So many people helped us pull this move off in a variety of ways. It reminds me of why I live here...and sometimes that reminder is necessary.

5.  I hate moving. I've done it 10 times in the last 12 years. I never want to move again. (My husband says, I always say that.)

6. Stuff will get "lost in the move" - just accept it.

Simply September

Goal this month:
Simplify.

My life. This home. Our schedule. (as much as possible and is within my control)

Summer Summary

I often look back on summers and think: What did I do? Where did the time go?
So, I am keeping a "Summer Summary" this year. At the end of each week I will pick one or two words or a phrase that sums up the week.

Week One: Wedding and Family
Week Two: Sickness and Opera
Week Three: Training and Visits
Week Four: Costumes and Saratoga
Week Five: Vacation Bible School and Aladdin Jr.
Week Six: Cleaning and Organizing and Middleburgh's 300th Anniversary
Week Seven: Cleaning and Organizing and Kiss Me Kate plus JJ's 29th Birthday!
Week Eight: LBI, NJ with Mom and Lawn Sale Day
Week Nine: Preparing- for school, for visits, for fall
Week Ten: Mississippi Merediths, LBI, one year anniversary of Irene

And that's it...that was summer. On to autumn and all it brings...

Clean Sweep!

So, now that the musical I was doing costumes for is over I have a pretty ambitious to-do list for the next 10 days:

1. Clean this apartment - and I mean DEEP clean it. Scrub things, move furniture, wash curtains. Like...Spring cleaning only in August 'cuz I didn't do it in the Spring. Also...sorting, organizing, and PURGING all of our STUFF! Town wide garage sale - here we come!

2. Help clean out my husband's childhood bedroom.

3. Reorganize the community theater's costume closet so we can fit everything back in neatly at the end of the season. Oh, and wash and put away all the costumes I used.

10 days??? Ha...I know I am crazy. I know it won't all get done. Especially now that I am at the end of day two of trying my best at  #1 and I have a CORNER of my kitchen done. Yes, one corner.
(I still have real-life-normal-everyday-stuff to do like....baby, grocery shopping, watching kids, and so on...)
I am keep my goal of August 10th though...I need to keep motivated and that is my husband's birthday. I have to do all of this NOW while he is on summer break and isn't working his normal hours. When September comes it will be so nice to have this place under control and no big projects looming over me. :) Some girls dream of diamonds...I dream of knowing where everything is in my house and having most of it labeled. Sigh.

Here's what is slowing me down...this place NEEDS the cleaning and I am also simplifying as I go. Goodbye decorative coffee mug and vase...I need to put baby bottles there.
Goodbye clutter from a space that could be used to get more stuff off my counters!
Into the trash all food that I don't want to eat (junk) but have felt guilty for getting rid of up 'till now!
Move this here, try this there, wash, dust, get rid of it!
(Shhh...this is really fun for me. I think that makes me a huge nerd.)

Tomorrow we start to tackle #2. Husband's childhood bedroom...time to box it up, display it, sell it, or trash it, Honey!

(I am posting this mostly to hold myself accountable. On August 10th, I'll post an update of how I did!)

UPDATE! Ha. ha. ha. We did finish JJ's bedroom by the 10th and we gave a ton of stuff to a local church to sell in their lawn sale. I finished the costume closet on the 12th...the day the last show wrapped. A little touch up when all the show laundry is returned and it will be closed up till spring. As far as our apartment...I cleaned the kitchen. :)

So...maybe I am not a blogger.

I started this blog over a year ago and I have used it 3 times.

Maybe I am just not a blogger.

Plus...if no one...and I mean NO one: 1) Knows you have a blog 2) Reads it
then is there a point to blogging?

I could journal. I used to love writing. I used to NEED to write.
I want to start up and again. Use that part of me.

It may be here...but I may just dig up a blank book and a pen.

Who knows?

I just found my blog!

Maybe I will start to use it!

But not today...today we have 6 hours between wrapping Willy Wonka Jr. and spending all day tomorrow working on Chicago.
So today...I will rest.

Stay tuned.

I could never love anyone as I love my sisters.

I love the book Little Women.
I love-love-love the movie Little Women.

but...

If anyone makes me sit through the musical Little Women ever again, I may freak out.
Let me just say...the production was fine...the actors, very talented.
I think it is a boring, awful, slow musical.

And that is saying a lot...because I love musicals.

I need a place...

I am just trying this.
After years of reading the blogs of women I love and admire.
Picking a title was easy...a song from The Secret Garden that has always rung true for me.

MARY:
I need a place where I can go,
Where I can whisper what I know,
Where I can whisper who I like
And where I go to see them.

I need a place where I can hide,
Where no one sees my life inside,
Where I can make my plans, and write them down
So I can read them.

A place where I can bid my heart be still
And it will mind me.
A place where I can go when I am lost,
And there I'll find me.

I need a place to spend the day,
Where no one says to go or stay,
Where I can take my pen and draw
The girl I mean to be.

------------------------------------

I need a place
where I can come and write...
for writing has always helped me become closer

to the girl I mean to be.
